Gov. Doug Burgum released the following statement tonight after the White House announced that President Donald Trump has granted the governor’s request for a presidential major disaster declaration for widespread spring flooding estimated to have caused roughly $40 million in damage to roads and other public infrastructure in North Dakota.

Gov. Doug Burgum signed an executive order tonight declaring a state of emergency in Fargo, West Fargo and Cass County and activating the North Dakota National Guard to help local authorities respond to unlawful activity and the risk to people and property due to civil disturbances.

The N.D. Department of Emergency Services (NDDES) was notified this week that its efforts to secure funding to build permanent flood protection around Fargo’s water treatment plant and pump station were approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) hereby gives notice to the public of its intent to reimburse eligible applicants for eligible costs to repair and/or replace facilities damaged by flooding on October 9th-26th, 2019.

Gov. Doug Burgum and other state officials today provided an update and highlighted statewide efforts in response to COVID-19. No cases have been reported in North Dakota and the risk remains low; however, ongoing community spread has been identified in multiple other states. North Dakotans play a key role in reducing the impact of COVID-19 in the state.

BISMARCK, N.D. – Officials from nearly a dozen agencies, including the Governor’s Office, Department of Emergency Services (DES) and North Dakota National Guard, began planning efforts today in anticipation of spring flooding after a record wet fall that has produced high river flows and left soils saturated heading into freeze-up.
